Astrology, Covid-19 and world money markets: June-Dec 2020

As an astrologer 2020 year always looked a tad intense, but the first six months have exceeded all expectations. And I have to say, the next six months could prove even wilder, particularly on the financial and business fronts.

The January 11 eclipse set the ball rolling as it triggered a powerful stellium (a tight grouping) of planets hanging out in the business-oriented sign of Capricorn. With the sun, Mercury, Saturn and Pluto all involved, it signaled a dramatic, changeable year, but the full effects were not evident until mid-March, when Jupiter (expansion) and Mars (action) joined the planetary party.

As Mars formed an exact conjunction with Pluto and Saturn on March 23, stockmarkets plummeted as the magnitude of Covid-19 become apparent. Surprising everyone, world markets rebounded as Mars motored on, but conjunctions like this signal beginnings, not endings.

In Western astrology the first square (90 degrees) generally ramps things up, and as Mars shifts into Aries (on June 29) then goes retrograde, this tension-producing aspect will be repeated three times; the first square covers much of August, the second from October 1-19, with the final square-off extending from mid-December to late January.

Interesting times as the sages say, particularly as the zodiac’s warrior planet, Mars, will be soaking up an impatient, headstrong Aries vibe for over six months (it’s usually six weeks). Let’s hope that all that masculine energy remains contained!

Adding fuel to the fire, the July 4-5 eclipse is set to impact the US chart in big way; in a masterstroke of celestial synchronicity, it even falls on Independence Day. Both socially and financially, shockwaves are likely to ripple out for the rest of the year, reaching a crescendo through 2022/23 and not fully settling until 2024, a year that marks a new feng shui age as well. With Pluto, the planet of power and transformation so heavily involved, it might well signal the end of an era.

Life has certainly taken a crazy turn, but from an astrological perspective, the current scenario has been building for over twelve years. Pluto’s 16-year transit through Capricorn began with the GFC in 2008, and the recent conjunction to Saturn and Jupiter has added strength to his transformational powers. Business, monetary and political structures will be tested, and in many cases toppled, over the next three and a half years as the ‘Aquarian Age’ draws closer.

The future may look cloudy and uncertain for much of 2020, but Jupiter and Saturn’s shift into Aquarius in mid-December should illuminate new paths. We might even catch a glimpse of a more equitable, caring and sustainable future, and with a little luck, the December 15 eclipse in Sagittarius will bring breakthroughs, or perhaps even a cure. Here’s to the age of Aquarius. Bring it on!
