Creating a salt water cure
Salt water cures are used in feng shui to remedy negative feng shui stars – in particular, 2s and 5s. Even if you don’t know your home’s ‘flying stars’, salt cures help to absorb negative energy – especially after a sickness.
For best results your salt cure should be open to the air (not covered or in a cupboard), and placed in a position where it won’t be disturbed by inquisitive pets or kids. Start by filling a glass tumbler with sea or rock salt until it’s roughly two-thirds full.
To protect your furniture, place your salt cure on a disposable coaster or small mat – and to be absolutely safe, don’t place it on a valuable antique.
Next, place six Chinese coins on top of the salt – make sure the four Chinese characters are facing upwards – and fill the glass to near the top with tap water (don’t worry if the coins sink). As the water evaporates over the coming weeks, top it up. Over time, the salt will crystalise (see my photo, right, taken after only two months). This shows that it’s working well and absorbing the negative energy.
After a few months, or just before the Chinese New Year in February, it should be thrown away and replaced with a fresh glass of salt.
BELLS
The sound of metal can also be used as a ‘cure’ for these troublesome stars. Try hanging some little bells on the door or if you’re feeling adventurous, ring a Tibetan singing bowl twice a day. In living areas, chiming clocks or pianos work especially well. Alternatively try a CD of piano music. Metal calabashes (old-style medicine carriers) can also prove effective, while in kids rooms xylophones work well.
